From a story by 5News out of Fayetteville, AK, an Iraq war veteran has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and has now been stripped of his natural right to self defense. It gets worse, because the way our stupid gun laws are made, his wife cannot have a gun either. So their family is not allowed to defend their home.
This is total crap, but it is far from the first time it has happened. This is one of those cases where too much Hollywood education went into the making of the law, as PTSD can happen to anybody... it isn't simply a soldier's disease. People who survive bad car crashes can get PTSD.
It gets more ridiculous than this. If the Veterans Administration deems a veteran incompetent in anyway, they are considered a prohibited person under our gun laws. Veterans have lost their right to keep and bear arms simply for being unable to control their finances.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Our gun laws suck!

About that aPad
Being the house of Steve Jobs disciples, we have an iPad. But just one. And using while our son is around is difficult. He always wants to touch it and quite frequently will swipe or poke the touch screen while we are using it... or worse, he'll press the home button. He loves to press the home button.
So I'd like to be able to give him something he can fiddle with while we use the iPad, or vice versa. But I don't want to lay down the serious clams again, so I was opening the new aPads (Android iPad competitors) would be just the ticket.
According to GigaOM, I should be prepared to be greatly disappointed... and prepared to buy another iPad. All the aPad's introduced are either hobbled some unreasonable way or are just as expensive as an iPad if not more. I guess that custom A4 processor really does make a difference in the price/performance area.

Reading List
Are you an angry white man with a love of guns and deep suspicion of your government? Well, have I got the thing for you, a recommended book reading list. Fight the revolution by sitting back in your easy chair, turning page after page. Or put a few on your bedside nightstand, but just remember to restrain yourself from shaking your fist in the air and yelling "Let slip the dogs of war and cry havoc!" because you might wake the missus.

My thanks to Army of Davids Field Marshal Reynolds for the link. And if you have never heard of Instapundit, then I highly recommend you read it... every day.
The Stig
I have been watching past episodes of Top Gear on Netflix this past week. It is hysterical and those guys are insane. So this story about the BBC suing to protect the identity of The Stig is interesting to me.
Coming Out ...of the Gun Cabinet: the Pink Pistols
I just finished listening to Tom Gresham's interview with Nikki Stallard of the Pink Pistols. It was pretty interesting to listen to Nikki talk about how the media treats gay gun owners differently than... well, straight gun owners. Tom agreed and so do I. The political intersection of gay rights and gun rights is one that can be mutually beneficial, especially in breaking down preconceived notions and returning people to some classically liberal ideas.
Don't believe me. Consider the recent story of High Bridge Arms, the sole gun store in San Francisco. Guess which group has come out in support of its re-opening and hasn't been painted as a group of gun-toting rednecks? That's right, its the Pink Pistols.

Lesson #2 From Katrina: Run from the Police
If lesson #1 from Katrina was that the press royally screwed up the coverage and badly misreported what happened, lesson #2 should be that the police were watching the bad press coverage, believed it, and went totally bonkers. And that's putting it politely.
After all, how else do you explain the need to steal Cadillacs to use as patrol cars. Or to go shoelooting shopping:
Then there was the completely egregious gun confiscation of law abiding citizens. Remember the old lady who might have gotten sick if she drank the possibly contaminated water, so it was best for her to be tackled and have her arm busted up?
Joking aside, the police did some really bad things in New Orleans in the days after Hurricane Katrina. Remember the Danziger Bridge shooting? The police shot and killed a group of unarmed civilians and then they tried to cover it up.
Now the FBI is looking into several more incidents with two new cases. One involves the police shooting a man, dumping his body in a car, and setting it on fire. How bad was it? It was PBS Frontline Special Edition bad!

Is Mexico Burning?
Holy crap things seem bad in Mexico! The drug war at the border seems to be spilling over into formerly violence-free cities. Eight people were burned alive in a gas bomb attack on a bar in Cancun yesterday. And this is on top of all the mayhem in Monterrey, also a city that has until recently been spared from the drug war.
Then there is the story of the 72 illegal immigrants being executed and dumped into a mass grave, in addition to the other 50 person mass graves that have been discovered recently. You know things are bad when your country has a mass-grave epidemic on its hands.
It would appear the drug cartels are branching out into other endeavors: extortion, protection rackets, kidnapping. See the correspondence over at Instapundit: “Shit’s about to collapse in MX and points south."
